Attention Triathlon Training Beginner - here is your shortcut to get started

Hey Triathlon Training Beginner, in case you don't have enough time to read through all the information on this site - here is what to do to get started:

  • Grab your timer and running shoes and get on the road.
  • Set the timer to 12 minutes and start running like crazy. Imagine you were in a foreign country. Your family was killed and you just escaped from the very same destiny. Everybody is behind you. If you stop, you're dead.
  • Do that for 12 minutes. No more, no less.
  • Relax. Good job so far.
  • Grab your bicycle with a cycling computer and find out how many miles you were able to run.
  • If you are male and have got more than 1.55 miles (2,5 kilometers) and if your are female and have got more than 1.24 miles (2 kilometers) - Excellent! You're in good condition and can proceed with the next step. If you fall below with your results: Don't worry! You are in respectable society. About 80% of all people fall into that category. But don't let yourself discourage by that fact. (What you just did was a simplified version of a Cooper running test.)
  • Get the minimum equipment for your first Triathlon venture: bathing suit, goggles and bathing cap for the water, a bicycle, a helmet (obligation, no starting allowed without one!), cycling glasses, cycling bibs and a shirt for the cycling portion, some good running shoes, shorts, shirt and a running cap for the last part of the Triathlon. You're set up!
  • Don't forget the following accessories: bananas, isotonic drinks (that is basically water with salt and sugar that merely tastes a bit better than water with salt and sugar), vaseline against rubbing, elastic and safety pins to fix your starter number on your shirt.
  • Arrive relaxed and fresh about one and a half hours before the start.
  • Set up your spot in the transition area.
  • Make yourself familiar with the sequence of the competition. Listen carefully to the instructions in the competition review before the race starts.
  • Warm yourself up and start the race with a smile on your face and a yelling scream!

One final hint: Relax during the swimming part. You will have enough opportunities to get rid of your energies later in the race. Congratulations! I just showed you how to get started. You're a certified Triathlon Training Beginner with diploma now.
