Training Accessories, Equipment and Apparel you absolutely need for your successful Triathlon Training and your competitions
Now we get into the nitty-gritty details of which training accessories are really necessary for your training and/or competition and which are not. You might wonder, but when I started out with Triathlon I had no fancy wet suit, no high tech, low air resistance triathlon bicycle, heck I didn't even have one of those cool running caps.
All I had was my running shoes, running shorts, a training top, some goggles and swim wear and a helmet as my training accessories. Yeah, don't forget about my bicycle. It was a simple mountain bike. That's it!
I just got started and didn't let myself distract by missing equipment or training accessories. Of course one of the reasons was, as you might know yet, that I didn't know too much about this sport (gently expressed) and so I just let myself guide by
the adventure of my first competition.
If you watch at some beginners today you might want to think that they intend to participate in the Olympic Games: aero helmet, 10,000,- USD bike with carbon fiber frame and spinning rims. People seem to invest more time in shopping for their first competition than they put efforts into proper training.
So what does make sense?
If you're starting out then rather focus on being in good shape (trust me, you will need every bit of performance) then on studying triathlon magazines and classifieds. It just distracts you from what is really important. When you arrive at the decision to continue with this sport after you first few competitions, it might be a good time to consider upgrading your equipment.
If you are a good swimmer then you may want to start with a wet suit for the great feeling it will give you when you use it the first couple of times (because it's going to become your strongest leg). But it won't give you such a performance boost as it will do for a weak swimmer.
If you are a good cycler you can start out with a new bicycle and so on.
Now comes the most important thing that almost no one is telling you. Your second most important investment should affect a discipline in which you are not really good in. Why is that? Simple. By putting your accent on your weakest leg you can gain the biggest increase in performance during your exercise. Makes sense? And let's face it - after all that's what we are all here for, right?
At a certain point you also might want to think about investing in this pretty cool gizmo that I really love to share with you as a resource.
So I just gave you a *secret clue* not only for your triathlon training plan but also for buying your first training accessories, which is focusing your training efforts on your weakest leg. You also learned that "having it all" certainly does not guarantee you a good result in your triathlon competition. You've got to work for it. Buying triathlon accessories or "stuff" alone won't help. If you are in good shape though it doesn't matter too much weather you outrival other competitors with a triathlon bike or a low-end mountain bike from the supermarket. Start small and quick.
