The big difference between Recovery and Recreation

What I mean by recreation is "active recovery". Things that you can *do* to recover faster. That includes for example cross trainings or RECOM units (regeneration and compensation) as well as regeneration through sauna, massages, solarium and several relaxation techniques that I will explain in much more detail to you here.

But it certainly doesn't end there though. It's a frame for everything you can do to get away from it all. It includes your hobbies and passions. Triathlon is not everything. If it currently is the only thing for your than I would strongly suggest that you quickly go and find something else that you resonate with. Be it your garden, going to the cinema or scrap booking. It matters not. Just get away from the sport for several hours each week.

What I found really helpful in the beginning was autogenous training and later on I switched to meditation and yoga. But I enjoy doing a lot of things that are absolutely unrelated to Triathlon like cooking, producing music or working on this website. Sometimes I have more trouble to find the time to get back to Triathlon than getting away from it. But that's a nice problem to have, wouldn't you agree?

Boredom or burn outs from too much exercising are completely unknown to me so far. In this section I want to help you to find some compensating activity that you might want to consider adding to your personal "recreational portfolio". Listed on this page you can find the things that I do on a regular basis and find very helpful in one way or another. Just click and follow the links above on this page and go through the different techniques for more details on each of the activities.

So let's state the definition here that recreation is the active process of doing something that you really like to fasten the process of your recovery.
